Crop an animated GIF in your browser

Remove empty borders, distracting edges, or unused scenery from an animated GIF. Draw one rectangular area around the part you want to keep, check its output dimensions, and download a tighter animation without installing separate image-editing software.

3D GIF Maker applies the same crop rectangle to every decoded frame. The animation keeps its original frame timing while the output canvas becomes the width and height of your selection, giving each moment in the loop a consistent composition.

How to crop an animated GIF

The live preview connects the visual selection with exact output information.

1. Upload your GIF

Select an animated GIF from your device. The browser decodes the frames and displays the full source in the preview. The initial selection covers the whole image, so the reported output width and height match the source until you draw a smaller region.

2. Draw the crop area

Drag across the preview from one corner of the area you want to keep to the opposite corner. The selection can begin from any direction. Watch the output width, output height, and position values update as the rectangle is normalized inside the source boundaries.

3. Check and download

Review the selection against different moments in the loop, then choose Download GIF. The browser crops every frame to the same rectangle and encodes a new animation. The exported file uses the selected dimensions and retains the source playback delays.

Position the crop with pointer or keyboard

Use broad pointer movements first, then refine the location when alignment matters.

Draw and move the selection

Drag on the image to create a new rectangle. After the selection is smaller than the full frame, drag inside it to move the complete area without changing its width or height. Drawing a new rectangle replaces the previous selection, which makes it easy to try a different composition.

Make precise keyboard adjustments

Focus the selection and use an arrow key to move it one pixel at a time. Hold Shift with an arrow key to move it ten pixels. Movement stays within the source boundaries, and the selection coordinates help confirm the exact top-left position after each adjustment.

Cropping and resizing do different jobs

Choose the operation based on whether you want to remove content or scale the complete frame.

Crop to remove image area

Cropping keeps only the pixels inside the selected rectangle. It changes the composition and output dimensions by cutting away the surrounding area. Use it to center a subject, remove an unwanted border, isolate a detail, or create a tighter loop for a small placement.

Resize to scale the full frame

Resizing keeps the complete composition but changes its pixel dimensions. This cropper does not include a resize control or fixed aspect-ratio presets. If a destination requires exact dimensions, crop the composition here first and use a suitable resizing workflow afterward.

Plan the crop across the complete animation

A good rectangle protects moving subjects and avoids unexpected cutoffs on later frames.

Leave room for movement

Watch the full loop before making the final selection. A person, object, caption, shadow, or effect may move near an edge after the first frame. Leave a small safety margin around important content so the tighter composition still works throughout the animation.

Use dimensions as feedback

The summary reports the selected width and height in pixels as well as its top-left coordinates. Use those values to compare alternate crops or repeat a position deliberately. The page does not enforce a platform ratio, so you remain free to choose the rectangle that suits the actual subject.

Preview before export

The visible overlay marks the area that will be retained, while the animation continues underneath it for context. Check busy and quiet frames, not only the opening image. The same rectangle is used for every exported frame, preventing the output canvas from jumping between sizes.

Use a tighter frame where space matters

Removing unused area can help the subject occupy more of a compact placement.

Social posts and messages

Crop away borders or background space before placing a reaction, meme, or short animation in a feed or conversation. Keep text and facial expressions inside the selection on every frame. The appropriate shape and dimensions depend on the destination where you plan to upload the result.

Product demos and details

Focus attention on a control, product feature, or moving detail when the original capture includes unrelated surroundings. A closer crop can make the action easier to see, but enough context should remain for viewers to understand what changes during the loop.

Local processing and export

The source is decoded, previewed, cropped, and encoded in your browser rather than uploaded by this editor. The tool is free and does not add a watermark. Export time depends on the source dimensions, frame count, selected area, and performance of your device.

Browser and support notes

Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and other current browsers provide the most reliable file handling. On mobile, use the main browser if an in-app social browser blocks downloads. Read the privacy policy and terms, or visit contact and email [email protected] with feedback or bug reports.
