Create custom GIFs with text
Add a clear message to an animated GIF without installing a separate editor. Use one line at the top, one at the bottom, or both together for a familiar meme layout, a reaction caption, a product label, or a short call to action.
3D GIF Maker draws the chosen text onto every decoded frame. You can preview the complete animation before downloading it, and the original frame delays are carried into the new file so the edited loop keeps its existing rhythm.

How to add text to an animated GIF
The editor keeps the source, settings, preview, and download controls together in one browser workspace.
1. Choose your GIF
Select a GIF file from your device. The browser decodes its frames and prepares the live preview locally. Once the file is ready, its name and frame count appear beside the editor so you can confirm that you opened the intended animation.
2. Write and style the message
Enter top text, bottom text, or both. Then choose an inside overlay or outside caption bars. Adjust the text size, fill color, outline color, and outline width while watching the preview to find a combination that stays readable throughout the loop.
3. Preview and download
Play the result and check frames with bright, dark, or visually busy areas. When the caption remains legible across the full animation, use Download GIF to encode the edited frames and save the finished file to your device.
Place captions inside the loop or on solid bars
Placement changes where the message sits, but both choices apply the same text consistently across the animation.
Inside GIF
Inside mode overlays the caption near the top or bottom edge of the existing frames. It keeps the original canvas dimensions and works well when the subject leaves enough open space for text. A strong outline can separate letters from changing colors behind them.
Caption bars
Caption bars expand the canvas above or below the original animation. The text sits on a solid area that the moving image cannot cover. Choose the outside background color to coordinate the bars with the caption, a brand palette, or the page where the GIF will appear.
Make short captions easy to read
A compact message, suitable scale, and dependable contrast usually produce a clearer animated caption.
Write for a moving image
Each top and bottom field accepts up to 80 characters. Short lines are easier to scan before the next frame arrives and leave more room around the subject. Put the essential phrase first, remove repeated words, and use both fields when the idea benefits from a setup and response.
Balance scale and contrast
Set the text from 10 to 120 pixels, choose separate fill and outline colors, and adjust the outline from 0 to 12 pixels. Review the entire loop because a style that looks clear on one frame may blend into another. Caption bars offer the most controlled background.
Use the finished caption in context
Match the amount of text and its placement to the job the GIF needs to do.
Memes and reactions
Use top and bottom lines for a recognizable meme structure, or add one concise subtitle to explain a reaction. Inside text preserves the original footprint, while caption bars give each line a stable background when expressions or scenery fill the frame.
Product and social posts
Label a product movement, identify a feature in a short demonstration, or add a brief action such as “See the result.” Keep the message focused so viewers can read it during one loop, especially when the GIF will appear in a fast-moving social feed.
Local export
The preview and final encoding run in your browser, and the source GIF is not uploaded by this editor. The tool is free to use and does not add a watermark. Processing time depends on the source dimensions, number of frames, and the performance of your device.

Browser and support notes
Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and other current browsers provide the most reliable file handling. On a phone, open the site in the main browser when an in-app social browser blocks downloads. Read the privacy policy and terms, or use the contact page and email [email protected] for feedback or bug reports.
